According to the news that RIA Novosti based on the statistics of the Turkish Immigration Office, more than 153 thousand Russian Federation citizens obtained residence permits in Turkey last year. The agency does not specify how many Russians received residence permits in 2021.
After the Russians, Iraqi citizens received the highest number of residence permits with 131 thousand people, while Syrians took the third place with more than 100 thousand residence permits.
Azerbaijan is among the countries with the highest number of residence permits. Azeris mostly applied for residence permit for family ties or education. Citizens of Azerbaijan ranked first among citizens of other countries in this indicator. Turkey granted residence permits to 1 million 354 thousand foreigners in total in 2022. While 706 thousand of the foreigners reside in Istanbul, 158 thousand new foreigners registered in Antalya. The number of foreigners legally residing in Turkey increased by 40 thousand compared to 2021.
